Who is she?
gwen coburn and she’s fucking cool
Gwen Coburn is a comedian and musician who uses her vocal pedagogy degree to sing beautifully about terrible things.
Called "a funny, foul-mouthed female Noel Coward" by the Orlando Weekly, she's charmed audiences from Elgin to Edmonton with songs about daddy issues and depression while wearing sparkles.
Her debut show Sad Girl Songs won Best Musical at Winnipeg Fringe and an honor for the Artistic Risk Award at Vancouver Fringe. At Edinburgh Fringe it got ★★★★ from the Wee Review. Critics say audiences "laugh, cry, and audibly gasp in shock."
Also just won Fringe's Buzziest Show Award for co-writing Who's Afraid of the West Cherry Orchard. Published in McSweeney's, Reductress, and Modern Love. Her writing's been described as "genuinely upsetting, in a good way", which is basically her whole vibe.
Boston-based. Horse-obsessed. Her mom calls it "the dark feminist stuff."
